SOURCES, RESOURCES, & INSPIRATION

FROM THE ARTIST

Images unfold as a series of visual essays - responses to the observed world, which at any time is stunning, raw, tragic, renewable, breathtaking.

Since early childhood I have loved flying. Floating shapes, layered light and macro perspectives recur throughout my work. Learning to pilot small aircraft deepened this connection - low altitude flight became physical immersion in light and space, shaping the visual language of my work.

Professional grants, sabbaticals, residencies brought me chiefly to Latin America - Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba -and Western Europe and I continued to develop specialized trips for cultural organizations and small groups. Fortunate to travel for months at a time, I owe much to Mexico, a profound influence in re-configuring my studio practice.

Sabbaticals provided time to develop lo-tech, non-toxic printmaking in challenging tropical and sub-tropical environments. Here in Sarasota, Selby Gardens, Spanish Point, Myakka River State Park, are key inspiration.

From 2019 - 2020, I undertook an arduous but rewarding task relocating from Boston to subtropical Sarasota, exactly as the pandemic shut down the world. Spring 2022 I opened my downtown studio.
